Union School

Union School is situated on West Street in Mudalaikulam, which is part of the Madurai district. It’s a quiet village area, far away from the main city noise. The school is a simple building where we gather every day. Most of the children live nearby in Mudalaikulam, so they just walk or bike over. We have a small staff of teachers who live around here too. The school day starts early to beat the Madurai heat. We have basic classrooms with benches and desks. It’s not a fancy place, but it serves the community well. We spend a lot of time on the core subjects and making sure the kids understand what they are reading. Sometimes we sit outside under the trees if the weather is nice. You can hear the sounds of the village while we are in class—birds, cattle, and people going about their business. It’s a very grounded atmosphere. We don't have a lot of extra resources, so we make do with what we have. The parents are usually busy with their own work, but they check in on us from time to time. We just want the kids here to have a decent place to learn their lessons. It’s a humble setup on West Street, but it’s ours and we take care of it.
