Manu Girls Higher Secondary School

Manu Girls Higher Secondary School is located at No 3 A in the Keerathurai area of Madurai. It is an old part of the city, and the streets around here can get quite narrow and crowded, especially during market hours. The school building itself has been part of the landscape for a long time. It’s a place for girls from the local neighborhood to come and finish their studies. We don’t have a lot of extra space, so every corner of the building is used for something, whether it’s storing old registers or setting up a small lab. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they hold up well enough against the Madurai sun. You will often see the students walking in groups through the lanes to get to the entrance by eight in the morning. Inside, it is usually a hum of voices and the sound of teachers explaining things at the front of the room. We don’t go in for anything flashy. Our focus is mostly on the daily grind of lessons and making sure the uniforms are tidy. The afternoon sun hits the courtyard pretty hard, so everyone tends to stay in the shade of the corridors during the short break. It is a very grounded place where people just show up and do the work that needs to be done for the day.
