Royal College Of Education is located right on the 70 Feet Bye Pass Road in Madurai. It’s a busy part of town, specifically Raja Muthaiah Nagar. You can hear the buses and lorries going past all day long. We have a building that stands out a bit in Ellis Nagar, mostly because of the students always hanging around the entrance between classes. Most of the people coming here are trying to become teachers themselves. It is a lot of serious studying and thick textbooks. The rooms are basic, with fans that hum loudly and old wooden desks. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. It is more about the work being done inside. The office is usually stacked high with forms and exam papers that need to be filed. Madurai is a hot city, so we all drink a lot of water and try to stay in the shade during the break. We have been here for a good number of years now. You see students come in as kids almost and leave ready to work in schools. It is an interesting thing to see every year. We don't have a big staff, just a few people who have been doing this for a long time. It’s a plain, practical place where people come to get their degrees and move on with their lives. We just keep the lights on and the schedule running as best as we can.
