Sunmathi Salon

Sunmathi Salon is down at No 10 on Kallikudi Road in T Kallupatti, Madurai. This is a part of the country where it stays warm almost all year round. Our shop is right there on the road, so it gets its fair share of dust from the passing vehicles. It’s a simple building with a few chairs inside. We mostly serve the local people from T Kallupatti and the nearby villages who come into town for their supplies. The shop has a very local feel to it. We don't have any air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that hums all day long. People come in, take a seat, and wait their turn while watching the traffic go by on Kallikudi Road. It’s a place where you can hear the local dialect and catch up on the gossip from the surrounding area. We’ve been here for a while, and the furniture shows its age, but it’s sturdy. Cutting hair is a skill we’ve practiced for years. We don't use any fancy products or have a long menu of services. It’s just haircuts and shaves, done the way they’ve always been done. The shop is a bit small, so it can feel a bit tight when there are four or five people waiting, but everyone is patient. We just keep working until the last person is done. It’s a quiet life here in the Madurai district, and we are just glad to have our spot on the road.
