Raja Salon

Raja Salon is right on the Madurai Main Road, very close to the Vadipatti Bus Stand. Because of where we are, we see all kinds of people coming through. Some are just passing through the city on a bus and need a quick shave or a trim before they head out again. Others are local residents who have lived in Madurai City for their whole lives. The bus stand area is always loud and dusty, so the shop feels like a bit of a break from all that movement. We have some heavy chairs that have been bolted to the floor for a long time. The mirrors are large and catch all the light coming in from the front door. We do not have any air conditioning, just the breeze and the fans, so it can get a bit warm in the afternoons. There is usually a newspaper laying around for people to read while they wait their turn. We do not do anything complicated here, just the standard cuts that people have been asking for since we started. It is a busy life being near the bus stand, but we like the energy of it. You never know who is going to walk in next, but we treat everyone the same way. We have been here for a long time and we plan on staying right here.
