Nagas Hair Designer & Beauty Parlour

Operating on Munichalai Road in Madurai means you have to get used to the heat and the constant flow of traffic. Our place, Nagas Hair Designer & Beauty Parlour, is a bit of a mix because we try to help out both men and women who come in. The shop is at 60A/3, and it’s a space that’s seen a lot of activity over the years. I usually start my day by checking the supplies, making sure we have enough shampoo and clean towels ready. The air conditioner works hard during the afternoon, but sometimes it struggles against the Madurai sun. We have some chairs for hair cutting and a small partitioned area for the beauty work. It’s not a massive salon, but we make the most of the square footage we have. You’ll often hear the sound of a hair dryer going in one corner while someone else is getting a traditional head massage in the other. Families often come in together, especially during the wedding season when everyone wants to look a bit sharper. I try to keep the atmosphere relaxed, so people don’t feel like they have to rush out as soon as the cut is done. The shelves are filled with various bottles and jars, some of which have been there for a while. It’s a busy life on Munichalai Road, and there’s always a bit of dust to sweep up, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
