Out here in Vadipatti, things move a bit slower than in the big cities, and Dolphin School is right in the middle of it. We are located on the way to Palamedu, so there is always a bit of dust from the road when the local buses go past. The building is simple, just what you would expect for a local school in this area. We start early because the sun gets quite hot by noon and nobody wants to be out in that. Most of the staff live nearby, so we walk or take a cycle to get here in the morning. The playground isn't massive, but there's enough room for the kids to run around during the breaks. Sometimes we have to remind them to stay out of the dirt, but they don't always listen. There are a few trees around that give some shade, which is nice in the summer months. Inside, the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they hold up okay for now. We spend most of our time just getting through the lessons and making sure everyone has what they need. It’s not a complicated place. We have some desks that have been here for years and they still do the job. You can hear the birds from the fields nearby when it’s quiet between classes. It’s a decent place to work and the kids from around Palamedu are generally good. We usually close up and head home before it gets too dark.
