Landscape Explorer

Landscape Explorer is over in the Lharjay Complex on Shanti Stupa Road. Being in Changspa is great because you are close to everything but still feel the mountains right over your shoulder. The office is part of the complex, which gets a fair amount of foot traffic from people walking up to the stupa. It’s a simple setup we have here. We’ve got some old wooden shelves and a few posters of the local peaks. The light in the mornings is usually very bright, so we keep the curtains half-drawn until it cools down. Working in Leh means you have to be flexible. Sometimes the water doesn't run, or the internet goes out for the whole day. You just learn to go with it. We aren't really into polished presentations. Most of the time, we are just sitting here in our fleece jackets, drinking tea and looking at maps. It’s a small operation, and we like it that way. You get to know everyone who comes through the door. The road outside can get a bit muddy when it rains, but usually, it’s just dry and dusty. We spend a lot of time just chatting with people who are curious about the treks or the roads. It’s a relaxed atmosphere, and we don’t try to make it something it isn’t. We just keep things moving and enjoy the view from the window when it is clear.
