Ladakh Calling

Ladakh Calling is based in the Chospa Complex on Old Road. Old Road has a different feel than the main tourist spots. It feels a bit more like the real Leh, with older buildings and a bit more grit. Our office inside the complex is pretty basic. We’ve got some maps, a computer that works when it wants to, and enough chairs for whoever drops in. We don’t bother with fancy carpets or expensive furniture. It’s a practical space for people who spend a lot of time outdoors. The sun hits the front of the building in the afternoon, which makes it a nice place to sit and have some tea. We’ve been here for a while and know the neighborhood well. You get to know the shopkeepers and the people who live nearby. Living and working at this altitude means you move a bit slower than people do in the plains. We don’t mind that. It gives us more time to talk to people. Sometimes someone will come in just to escape the wind for a bit, and that’s fine with us. We don’t have a big mission statement or any of that corporate talk. We just show up, open the office, and take things as they come. It’s a quiet way to live, but we like it here on Old Road. We just do our work and try to stay warm when the wind picks up.
