You can find us near Kota Junction, right in Masjid Gali. It’s a narrow street, so things get pretty cramped when we are loading up the trucks with tents and poles. This business is mostly about being fast and making sure things don't fall down when the wind picks up. We have stacks of colorful fabrics and miles of wiring for the lights piled up in our storage space. It’s a noisy neighborhood, especially with the trains passing by so often, but we like it here. When there’s a festival or a big wedding, we don’t get much sleep at all. We are usually out there in the dark, hammering stakes into the ground or stringing up fairy lights across a courtyard. My hands have calluses from the ropes and the metal pipes we carry. We don’t have a website or anything like that; people usually just find us by walking into the lane or hearing about us from a neighbor. Sometimes the weather ruins a setup, and we have to start all over again, which is just part of the job. It’s honest work that keeps us moving. The tea stall at the corner of the gali is where we spend our breaks, just sitting on the wooden benches for a few minutes before getting back to the heavy lifting. We just focus on getting the tents and lights ready for whoever needs them.
