Aashish Tent House

Running Aashish Tent House on the main road in Keshavpura keeps us on our feet quite a bit. It’s mostly about moving heavy things from one place to another. We have stacks of iron pipes and large bundles of colored cloth piled up in the back. During the wedding season, the yard is a mess of ropes and poles. It gets really hot in Bajrang Nagar during the summer, so moving those metal frames is tough work that makes your hands calloused. We spend hours making sure the fabric is mostly clean and that we have enough chairs for whatever event is happening next. The truck we use for deliveries is old and the engine makes a loud rattling noise, but it gets the job done. Sometimes we are out late at night setting things up under big floodlights, and other times we are taking everything down in the early morning fog. People come by the shop to talk about dates and how many guests they are expecting. We don't have a fancy office, just a couple of plastic chairs and a desk covered in scraps of paper. It’s hard labor and the dust from the Balakund road gets into everything, but seeing a finished setup is okay. We just keep doing the work, loading and unloading, day after day, and making sure the tents stay standing even if the wind picks up. It is just the way we have always done things here.
