Capithan Exporting Company

Our office is right on Port Road in Sakthikulangara. Being this close to the water means you’re always around the noise of the docks. Capithan Exporting Company is basically just a hub for moving goods out. You can hear the cranes and the ships all day long. The air is salty and there is a lot of dust from the trucks moving up and down the road. We spend our time checking containers and making sure everything is labeled right. It’s a lot of standing around in the heat, waiting for things to be loaded or unloaded. Sometimes the paperwork gets delayed at the customs office and we have to go down there and wait for hours. It’s not a clean job; you usually go home with dirt on your clothes and grease on your hands. We don’t have any fancy brochures or a PR person. It’s just us, some clipboards, and a lot of phone calls to the shipping agents. We’ve been operating out of Port Road for a while now, so we know most of the drivers and the port workers by name. It’s a rough environment sometimes, especially when the monsoon hits and everything gets soaked. But we just put on our rain gear and keep moving the crates. It’s what we do, and we’ve been doing it for enough years that we don't think much about it.
