Akas Aquarium

Akas Aquarium is located in Suji Bhavan, which is in the Kottakkam area of Perinad. When you walk into the shop, the first thing you notice is the sound of the water bubbling in the tanks. It’s a constant noise that we don't even hear anymore, but visitors always mention it. The air inside is always a little damp because of all the water, and we spend a lot of our time cleaning the glass or checking the filters. Suji Bhavan is a decent building, and we have been here long enough that most of the locals know where to find us. We aren't a big shop with bright neon signs or anything like that. We just have our rows of tanks and the supplies stacked on the shelves. Sometimes we spend hours just watching the fish move around while we wait for people to come in from the Perinad streets. The floor is usually a bit wet from when we change the water, so we have to be careful not to slip. We don't have any corporate training or polished speeches. We just know about the fish we keep and we tell people what they need to know when they ask. It’s a simple life surrounded by water and quiet creatures. Most days are peaceful, even when we have to scrub the algae off the glass for the hundredth time. It’s just us and the fish in a quiet corner of Suji Bhavan.
