About International Leather Craft – Fashion & Trends in Kolkata
Working with leather means the smell of the hides is the first thing you notice when you walk into 11d Topsia Road. Here at International Leather Craft, we spend our days surrounded by tools, glue, and large sheets of skin. The location in Kenathuparambu, Kunathurmedu is a bit out of the way for some, but it suits us just fine. We have a solid routine of cutting, skiving, and stitching that takes up the better part of the week. The floor is usually covered in small scraps of leather and thread by the time we finish a batch. It’s a messy process, and our hands are usually stained by the end of the day. We don't have a polished front office; we mostly just work at our benches under the hanging lamps. The lighting is important because you can't afford to make a wrong cut. We talk a lot about the quality of the material we get in, sometimes complaining if a batch isn't quite right. It’s just a handful of us here, and we’ve worked together long enough that we don’t need to say much to get the job done. Lunch is usually a quick affair so we can get back to the machines. When an order is finally packed and ready, it feels good to see the empty space on the floor for a few minutes before the next load of raw material arrives. It’s a long day but satisfying.
