Down at No. 5/2c Green Park on Tiljala Lane, you'll find us working away. Damas Lederwaren Company is where we handle leather stuff every day. The smell of leather is the first thing you notice when you walk in. It’s a strong scent but we don’t even notice it anymore. We spend a lot of time at our benches with knives and needles. It takes a lot of patience to get the edges right. The lane can be a bit tricky to find if you aren't from around here. We’ve got stacks of hides in the corner waiting to be cut. It isn’t the cleanest job, but there is something nice about finishing a piece and seeing it look solid. We are just a small crew. We talk while we work, mostly about neighborhood news or what’s for lunch. Sometimes a customer comes in with something they want fixed, and we see what we can do. It's been our spot for a good while. Tiljala Lane has its own rhythm, and we are just part of it. We don’t bother with big signs. If you need us, you know where the door is. The light in the workshop is best in the morning, so that’s when we do the tricky stitching. By the end of the day, our hands are usually tired, but the work is done. It is just how things go for us here in Green Park.
