The Asiati Leather

The Asiati Leather is located at 3/2, South Tangra Road. This part of town has a long history with leather, and we are right in the thick of it. The smell of the tanning process is something you notice the moment you turn onto the street. Our building isn't anything special to look at. It's a functional space where we store and process the hides. We have some heavy machinery that makes a lot of noise when it's running. The floors are often wet because of the way we have to handle the materials. It’s a tough environment, but we’ve been doing this for years. We wear heavy aprons and boots most of the day. There’s no air conditioning here, just some big fans that move the air around. We get the raw skins in and we work on them until they are ready for the next stage. It’s a lot of manual labor, checking the thickness and the feel of the leather. Sometimes the batches don't come out exactly how we wanted, so we have to adjust the process. We don't have a big marketing department or a fancy lobby. If you want to talk to us, you usually have to find us out back near the vats. It's a traditional way of working, passed down through the guys here. We just keep at it, day in and day out. It's hard work, but it's ours.
