Tania Leather Enterprise is based at 10/h/10/3 Beliaghata Main Road. Most people around here still call it Dr. S. C. Banerjee Road. It’s a classic Kolkata neighborhood, very lively and a bit crowded. Our workspace is right in the middle of all that. We deal with leather products, so there’s always that distinct aroma in the air. It’s a practical place, focused on production rather than looking pretty for visitors. We have heavy sewing machines and large tables for laying out the hides. The walls are lined with tools and patterns we’ve used for years. It’s not a quiet environment. There’s always someone hammering or the sound of the machines running. We don’t have a fancy mission statement or anything. We just make stuff. The humidity in Beliaghata can be tough on the leather, so we have to be careful how we store things. We're just a small group of people working hard every day. Sometimes we stay late to finish a batch, and other times we finish early and talk over tea. It’s a very local feel here. We know the neighbors and the shopkeepers nearby. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep our heads down and focus on the leather. It’s hard work, but seeing a finished bag or wallet makes it worth the effort. That’s just life on Beliaghata Main Road for us and we wouldn't change it.
