Sree Shyam Stores

Sree Shyam Stores has its spot at 1 Shibtala Street. This is an old part of the neighborhood and the street can get quite crowded with people walking and rickshaws squeezing past. We’ve been here for a long time now. The store isn't very large but we pack a lot into it. Every morning we roll up the shutters and start arranging things so people can see what we have. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting boxes and cleaning the shelves, but we are used to it. The walls have seen many years of business. Most of our customers are neighbors who have been coming here since they were kids. We talk about the weather or the local news while we help them find what they need. It’s not a supermarket where everything is under bright lights and plastic. It’s more of a traditional store where things might be a bit dusty on the top shelves. Shibtala Street has its own noise and smell, especially during the festivals. We stay open late most nights because that is when people finish work and stop by on their way home. It’s a simple way of living and working. We don't have a website or any fancy machines. We just use a pen and paper mostly. It’s how we have always done things and it seems to work out okay for everyone involved. The ceiling fan creaks a bit but it keeps us cool enough during the day.
