Sree Durga Variety Store

Lalbazar is where you can find us if you are looking. We have been running Sree Durga Variety Store for quite some time now. It is a small place, really, but we try to keep it full. We sell all sorts of little things that people need for their homes. One day it might be soap and the next day it is a specific kind of notebook for a school kid. We keep the stock on wooden shelves that go all the way up to the ceiling. I usually have to use a ladder to get to the top ones. The floor is old tile that is worn down in the middle from all the people walking on it over the years. We do not have a computer for the bills; we just write them out by hand or just tell the person the price. People in the neighborhood know us by name. They stop by to chat even if they are not actually buying anything that day. It gets a bit dusty because the door is always open to the street. I spend a lot of my time just dusting off the jars. We have a small radio that plays the local news or some music in the background. It is not a fancy supermarket, just a local store where you can find what you forgot to buy elsewhere. Sometimes we run out of things and have to wait. We do not worry about it too much.
