Shree Bharat Dal Mills

Shree Bharat Dal Mills is tucked away over here on Canal East Road. Ultadanga is always loud and moving, which is just how it is in this part of town. We are at number 2, right by the canal. The air smells like the city here, a mix of everything. We’ve been running the mills for a long time now. It’s dusty work, and the machines make a lot of noise, but it’s what we know. Most of the staff live nearby, so they just walk or take a rickshaw in. The morning shift starts early when it’s still a bit cool outside. By noon, the sun is hitting the roof and it gets pretty warm inside. We don’t have any fancy lobby or reception area. Just the mill and the office space where we keep the books. Sometimes the traffic on the road gets backed up all the way from the bridge, making it hard for the trucks to get in and out. We just deal with it as it comes. It's an old building, but it holds up. We go through a lot of grain every day. It’s honest work, even if it’s messy. You get used to the sound of the bags being moved around. Ultadanga is a busy hub, and being on Canal East Road means we’re right in the middle of the chaos. We drink a lot of chai to keep us going through the afternoon slump. It is just a regular life here.
