Shankar Store

My family has been running Shankar Store for quite a while now. We are right on Post Office Road in Dum Dum Cantonment. It’s a busy spot, especially in the mornings when people are heading out. We keep things simple here. Mostly, it’s just me and a couple of others helping out behind the counter. The shop isn't huge, but we try to stock what people usually need for their homes. You see the same faces every day, which is nice. Sometimes the rain makes the road a bit messy, but people still stop by. We open early because that’s when the neighborhood wakes up. It can get a bit crowded when the post office next door is busy, but we manage. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. It’s just shelves with items stacked where they fit. We know most of our customers by name since they live just a few blocks away. Dealing with suppliers takes up a lot of my time, but I prefer talking to the regulars. Sometimes the electricity goes out, and we just use a torch until it comes back. That’s just how it is here. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in Dum Dum, just a place where you can get your things without a fuss. It’s a quiet life, mostly just keeping track of stock and making sure things aren't dusty and the floors are swept.
