I have been doing photography here in Tollygunge for quite a while now. My studio is not one of those big, shiny places you see in magazines. It is a comfortable room where I keep my backdrops and my lighting gear. Most of the time, I am out on the streets or at people's houses for events, but this is where I come to do all the editing and planning. Tollygunge is a great place for a photographer because there is so much life and history in the streets. I keep my cameras in a padded cabinet because the humidity can be a real pain for the lenses. My desk is usually covered in memory cards and half-empty coffee cups. I do not have a secretary or anything, so if you call, you are going to talk to me directly. Sometimes I am late replying to messages because I am in the middle of a shoot or stuck in traffic. I like taking pictures that look real, not the overly polished stuff that looks fake. It is just about capturing what is there. People come to me for portraits or to document their family functions, and I just try to be helpful. I do not use a lot of fancy words to describe what I do. I just take the photos and hope the people like them. It is a simple life, moving from one shoot to the next and seeing the world through a viewfinder. I would not want to be doing anything else.
