S-Mart

Being located inside Green Field City makes things a bit different than the usual street shops. S-Mart is right here on Ho Chi Minh Sarani in Ramnagar. I remember when this whole area looked a lot different before all the buildings went up. Now, there are always people walking by, especially in the evenings when everyone is back from work in Shibrampur. The shop stays quite cool because of the way the building is positioned, which is a relief during the summer months. I spend most of my time organizing the aisles. Since we are in a residential complex, people expect things to be a bit tidier. I try my best, but sometimes the delivery guys leave crates in the middle of the floor and I have to trip over them until I find a spot. It's just me and two other guys who take turns at the counter. We don't really do anything special, just sell the daily essentials that everyone needs. Sometimes the electricity goes off and we have to wait for the generator to kick in, which makes the customers a bit grumpy. I live nearby, so the commute is just a five-minute walk, which is the best part of the job. I see the same faces every single day, so I’ve gotten to know whose kid likes which chocolate and who always forgets their reusable bag. It’s a decent way to spend the day and it stays pretty consistent.
