Our place is located at Zone 10, Plot No 907. If you know the Calcutta Leather Complex in Kantatala, you know it’s a busy hub. 24 Parganas South is where we spend our days. Pragati Vinimay isn't a place with marble floors. It’s a working warehouse and office. We deal with a lot of heavy lifting. The floor is concrete and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they’re fine for now. We have a small team. Everyone knows their job. Some of us have been here since the beginning. The commute out to Kantatala is long for some of the guys. We usually start early before the sun gets too hot. The leather business involves a lot of waiting for shipments and then a lot of rushing when they arrive. We try to keep the paperwork in order, but it’s a lot to manage. There’s a tea stall just outside the complex gate where we go sometimes. The fan in the main office makes a weird clicking sound, but nobody bothers to fix it. We just get on with things. It’s a practical environment. We don't have any fancy meetings. We just talk across the desks. It works for us. We've got stacks of old boxes in the corner that we really should clear out one day. The truck drivers usually show up around noon and that's when things get really hectic around the loading dock.
