United Leather Industries

United Leather Industries is based at 12/2a Palm Avenue. It’s a nice enough street, and our building is tucked away so it doesn't stand out much. We’ve been working with leather for a long time, and this is where we do all our processing and sorting. It isn't a massive operation with hundreds of workers. It’s more of a small, hands-on place where we can actually see every piece that comes through. The leather comes in large pieces, and we spend a lot of our time inspecting them for marks or thin spots. We don't have a polished showroom or a fancy website. Most of our business comes from people who have known us for years. Inside, it’s mostly just desks, cutting boards, and the smell of treated hides. Sometimes the office gets a bit cluttered with samples and paperwork, but we know where everything is. We don't use any high-tech automation; it’s mostly just old-fashioned tools and steady hands. The weather in Kolkata can be tough on leather, so we have to be careful about how we store things. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in the city. We just want to keep making our products the way we always have. It is quiet work for the most part, and we like it that way. Most days we just put our heads down and get through the stack.
