Nirmala Stores

Nirmala Stores is situated at 1, Nirmala Stores on Garia Garden Road. Being in the 700002 part of Kolkata means there is never a dull moment. The shop is right there on the road, and we try to keep it looking decent, though the dust from the street always seems to find its way inside. We carry a bit of everything that a household might need. Most of our day is spent behind the counter or out front chatting with a neighbor while they pick out their items. It’s a small operation, so we do everything ourselves, from the heavy lifting to the cleaning. Garia Garden Road is a good spot, and we've been in this spot for a while now. The shelves are packed pretty tight because we want to make sure we have whatever someone might ask for. We don't have a mission statement or any of those corporate goals, we just want to make sure the milk is cold and the rice is clean. Sometimes we forget to turn the sign over or the lightbulb in the corner flickers, but that's just the character of an old shop. We've seen kids grow up and start coming in on their own to buy things for their parents. It’s that kind of place. We don't use any fancy technology, just a simple register and a lot of patience.
