Megha Leathers

Megha Leathers is tucked away at 118, Prabhu Ram Sarkar Lane in the Tangra area. Tangra is an interesting place with a very long history of leather work and tanning. The lanes around here are very narrow and winding, so getting large transport vehicles in can be a real struggle every single day. Our building is one of the older ones in the lane, and we use every bit of space we have to store and work on the leather. It’s a bit dark inside the main area, but we have good bright lights set up over the workbenches so we can see what we are doing. We do a lot of the finishing work here. The smell of the hides is just a part of daily life in this neighborhood. We are a small team, and everyone knows their specific job. We don't have a fancy reception area or anyone to answer the phones with a scripted greeting. If you call us, you’ll probably hear the sound of the scrapers or the machines working in the background. We spend a lot of time sorting through the pieces to find the best sections for our specific orders. Sometimes we stay quite late when a big shipment is due to go out, working by the light of a few hanging bulbs. It’s a bit messy, with leather scraps and trimmings all over the floor, but we try to clean up at the end of the week. We’ve been here a long time and know the area.
