Amitan Leathers

We work out of No. 3/1a Matheswartala Road. This is where Amitan Leathers is based. If you walk inside, the first thing you notice is the smell of raw leather and glue. It’s a strong scent that sticks to your clothes, but we don't mind it much anymore. The workshop is usually a bit of a mess with scraps of leather on the floor and heavy sewing machines on the tables. We spend the whole day cutting, stitching, and finishing leather goods. It’s messy work because of the dyes and the tools we use. The building on Matheswartala Road isn't anything special to look at, but it has enough light for us to see the fine details of the stitching. We use big wooden tables for laying out the hides so we can find the best parts to cut. There is always the sound of hammers or the whirring of the machines in the background. We have a few guys here who have been working with leather for years, so they know exactly how the material behaves. We don’t have a big front office or a receptionist. If you come by, you’ll probably find us with our sleeves rolled up, covered in a bit of dust. It’s just what we do here every day, turning the raw skins into finished pieces that are ready to be sent out.
