Makali Varity Stores

Makali Varity Stores is located on D.D. Mondal Ghat Road in the Dakshineswar area of Kolkata. We are a small local shop where we keep a little bit of everything. It could be a bucket you need, some soap, or maybe some thread for sewing. We try to stock the things that people around here use every day. Living and working in Dakshineswar is special because of the history and the temple nearby, but for us, it’s just home. The shop is where we spend most of our time. It’s not a very big room, so we have to use every inch of the walls to hang things up. Sometimes it feels a bit cramped, but that’s how variety stores usually are. We get a lot of people stopping by on their way to the ghat. We talk about the weather or the price of things while we wrap up their purchases in newspaper or bags. We don't have any big goals of becoming a huge chain; we just want to keep the shop running and help our neighbors. Some days are slow and we just sit on the stool and watch the people go by. Other days, we can barely keep up with the customers coming in for puja supplies or snacks. It’s just the way it goes when you run a shop yourself. We hope to stay here for many more years.
