Ma Tara Stores

Ma Tara Stores is located over at 54, B. B. Chatterjee Road in Kasba. If you know this part of the city, you know how loud and busy the street gets during the day. We’ve been here for a long time, watching the neighborhood change around us. The shop is small and tucked away, but we like it that way. Most of the people who come in are neighbors who have been living in Kasba for decades. We don’t really do any big advertising. People just know we are here. My brother and I take turns sitting at the front. Sometimes it’s slow, and we just sit and watch the traffic go by. Other times, three people want something at once, and we have to move fast. It’s mostly dry goods and stuff for the kitchen. We try to keep the shelves organized, but things get moved around a lot. The floor is old stone and stays cool in the summer, which is good because we don't have air conditioning. We close for a bit in the afternoon for lunch and a short break before the evening rush starts. It’s a basic shop, really. No bright lights or loud music, just a place to buy what you need. We’ve gotten used to the noise of the buses outside. It’s just part of being on B. B. Chatterjee Road. We just keep things moving and help whoever walks in.
