M. K. Stores

Down in Hatiara, specifically in the Sardar Para area, you’ll find M. K. Stores. We are right on Hatiara Road in Kolkata. It’s a typical local shop. My father opened it years ago, and we haven't changed much since then. We have the usual jars of sweets on the counter and stacks of rice bags in the corner. Kolkata is always busy, and our street is no different. There are always people walking by, and someone is always stopping in for a pack of cigarettes or some matches. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we are too busy to get around to it. We keep everything from spices to toothbrushes. It’s a tight space, so you have to be careful not to knock anything over. We know most of our customers by name since they live just a few houses away. It’s not like those big air-conditioned malls. Here, you can just shout what you want and we’ll get it for you. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. Just a family running a store in 700157. Sometimes we stay open a little late if people are still out and about. It’s just how things work in this part of town. We are just a part of the daily life on Hatiara Road. Everyone knows where the entrance is.
