Leather India Works

If you know Topsia Road, you know how busy it gets, especially on the south side where we are located at 11/1/1e. It’s a part of town where everyone seems to be doing something with leather, so we fit right in with the rest of the workshops. Our building is a bit on the older side, and the stairs can be a little steep if you’re carrying a heavy load. Inside, the place is full of the scent of raw and treated skins. It’s a strong smell, but after being here for years, we don't even notice it anymore. The floor is rarely ever clean because there are always little bits of leather and thread everywhere. We don't have a big staff or any corporate rules. It’s just a group of us who know the work well. We spend a lot of time sorting through the different grades of material that come in. The lighting isn't the best in the back corners, so we have to bring the hides closer to the window to really see the grain. It gets quite loud with the honking from the street outside, but we just turn up the radio and keep going. We don’t have any fancy corporate goals. We just come in, do what needs doing, and try to keep the piles from falling over. It’s a simple way to make a living and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the road.
