Laxmi Varity Store

Kolkata is a noisy place especially when you are right on B T Road all day. Laxmi Varity Store sits there in Belgachia and we see a lot of people passing by on their way to work or just going about their day. It is a 700037 area code if you are looking for it. I spend a lot of time just arranging the small items on the racks and making sure everything is where it belongs. The shop is full of all sorts of things, nothing too big, just the kind of things you expect in a small variety store. The traffic outside never really stops and the horns are always going off. Sometimes I have to shout a bit just to be heard over the noise of the buses passing by. The floor is old stone and it stays a bit cool even when the humidity is very high outside. I don't have many fancy displays or anything like that. I just put things where they fit on the shelves. People stop by for a quick thing before catching their bus. I know most of the faces from around this block now. We have been here in Belgachia for some time and it feels right. The shelves are high and sometimes I need a stool to reach the top ones. It is a simple life just selling things and talking to the people who live around here. There is always some dust from the road so I am wiping the glass jars. It’s not a big company, just me and the shop.
