Koushik Variety Stores

You can find us on B.T. Road, right across from Bengal Chemicals in Panihati. This part of the 24 Parganas North district is always crowded and noisy with traffic. Our store is a bit of a mix of everything. We keep a variety of household items because you never know what someone might walk in and ask for. It could be a notebook, some soap, or a small kitchen item. The shop is small and we try to use every bit of shelf space we have. Sometimes things get a bit cluttered, but we usually know where everything is tucked away. Since we are on a main road like B.T. Road, we get people stopping by all day long. Some are regulars from the local neighborhood and others are just people passing through on their way to work. We open up pretty early and stay late into the evening. There isn't much of a break during the day. It’s just us behind the counter, talking to customers and making sure the change is right. We don't have any fancy decorations or air conditioning. It’s just a regular local shop where we try to provide what people need for their daily lives. The noise from the buses outside is constant, but after working here for so long, you stop noticing it. It’s just how things are in this part of town. Sometimes the rain gets heavy and leaks under the door, so we keep a mop handy and just keep going until closing time.
