Kid'Z Gurukul School

Our school is tucked away in Rahara Saradapally, over in the Rahara area of Kolkata 700118. It’s a bit quieter here than the main roads, which is nice for the kids when they are trying to focus. We call it a Gurukul, but really it’s just a place where we try to teach the basics in a way that makes sense. We’ve got a few rooms and a small area where they can run around. The walls have some scuff marks from where the kids have bumped into them with their toys, but that’s just life in a school. We spend a lot of time on the floor, sitting with them and working on their letters. It’s not a high-tech place. We use chalkboards and books and physical toys. It seems to help them more at this age. The parents around Rahara are good people, and they often stop to chat when they pick up their children. It feels like a small community. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to open all the windows to let the breeze in, but we make it work. We aren't trying to be the biggest school in Kolkata. We just want to be a reliable place for the families in Saradapally. It’s hard work, and by the end of the day, we’re usually pretty tired, but seeing the kids learn something new makes it all okay for us.
