Katni Public Higher Secondary School

Our school is located in one of the oldest and most historic parts of Kolkata, over in Bagbazar. We are specifically at 16/1 A on Ram Kanta Bose Street. If you walk down this street, you can feel the history of the city. It’s very narrow and can get quite congested, especially during the festival seasons when the whole neighborhood comes alive. The school itself is a higher secondary institution, so we have the older kids here as well as the younger ones. The building is one of those classic Kolkata structures that has seen many years. It isn't perfect; there are patches of paint that might need a touch-up and the stairs have been worn down by thousands of feet over the decades. But it has a soul that you won't find in a brand-new building. We are part of the local fabric here. Many of the parents who send their kids here went to this school themselves. There is a sense of continuity in Bagbazar that we are proud to be part of. We don't have much in the way of a yard, but the kids find their ways to play. It’s a place where we teach the standard curriculum and try to prepare the students for their board exams. It’s hard work, and the environment is very traditional. No big marketing campaigns here, just the daily routine of bells and lessons in the heart of North Kolkata. It is just a school doing its job for the neighborhood.
