Kids Care Eng School

Kids Care Eng School is based out of Dipa Villa on Dakshin Behala Road. Sarsuna is where we all work and live, really. The school is basically a house that we turned into a learning space for the neighborhood kids. It has that lived-in feel, which I think makes the younger kids feel less nervous when they first start. We have a small yard area, but it's mostly indoor stuff because of the rain and the heat in Kolkata. The rooms are filled with desks and some bookshelves we've had for years. We teach in English here, trying to get the kids used to the language early on. It isn't always easy, and sometimes the kids just want to speak in Bengali, which we understand. We have a daily routine of stories and then some writing practice. It's not a high-pressure environment at all. We just want them to be ready for the bigger schools later on. The gate stays shut during school hours for safety. You can hear the traffic from Dakshin Behala Road sometimes, but it’s just background noise now. We don't have a big website or anything, most people just find us by walking by or hearing about us from a neighbor. It’s a small operation. We do our own cleaning and organize the supplies ourselves. It's just a practical, local school for the families around here who need a place for their children to go.
