Khidir Pukhuri Lp School

If you walk down East Topsia Road, you’ll find us at 16/1 E. Khidir Pukhuri Lp School is a small primary school right in the middle of everything. Topsia is a very crowded and active neighborhood. There is always noise from the shops and the vehicles passing by. Our building isn't very big, but we make use of every corner. The kids are quite young, so they make a lot of noise. We start the day early to beat the worst of the afternoon heat. The classrooms have basic wooden benches and desks. We spend a lot of time writing on the boards. The children bring their own bags and water bottles. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just have to sit and wait for it to come back while using hand fans. The local area is very busy, so we have to be careful when the kids are leaving at the end of the day. The parents are usually waiting right outside the gate. It’s a very humble place. There are no big decorations or anything like that. Just the usual school things like charts on the wall and piles of books. We focus on the daily lessons. It's a bit of a struggle with the noise from the street, but you get used to it after a while. It's just a part of living and working in this part of Kolkata. We keep things moving.
