Khalsa Mission Public School

You will find Khalsa Mission Public School over in Alambazar, right on M N K Road North in the Tantipara area. It’s a busy part of Kolkata, and the school is right in the thick of it. We have students from all kinds of backgrounds here. The school building is a bit of a landmark for the people living in the 700035 area. We aren't a corporate school with huge budgets. Most of what we do is very simple and straightforward. The classrooms have big windows, which is good because it gets stuffy in the summer. We have a small playground, though it’s mostly just a patch of ground where the kids run around. The staff here has been around for years. They know which students are siblings and which ones live just around the corner. We don't use a lot of fancy words to describe ourselves. We just teach the subjects that are required and try to make sure the kids stay out of trouble. Sometimes the roof leaks a little when the rain is really heavy, but we put out buckets and keep going. Parents often stop the teachers on the street to ask how their kids are doing in class. It’s that kind of neighborhood. We have a morning assembly where everyone gathers, and then it’s straight to work. There’s always someone sweeping the floors or moving benches around. It’s a lived-in place that belongs to the community. We are just here doing our job as best as we can.
