Kesava Reddy Residential School

Our school is at 29 Pratapaditya Road in Kalighat. Since it’s a residential school, the kids are here all the time, not just during class hours. The building is a bit bigger because we need space for the dorms as well as the classrooms. It’s a lot of work keeping everything going twenty-four hours a day. We have a kitchen where the meals are cooked, and you can usually smell dal or rice cooking by mid-morning. The rooms for the students are simple—just beds and some cupboards for their clothes. We try to keep a bit of a schedule so things don't get too messy. The teachers often stay late to help out or just to supervise. It’s a bit of a tight-knit group here because we see each other so much. The street outside is always busy, but we have a gate that keeps the noise out a little bit. We don't have a big field for sports, but the kids find ways to play in the courtyard. It’s not a luxury place, just a practical school where kids can live and learn. We spend a lot of time on maintenance, fixing leaky taps or painting over scuff marks on the walls. It’s just the daily life of a boarding school in the city. Parents come to visit on the weekends, and that’s always a busy time for us. We just keep things moving forward.
