Kerala High School

Our school is over at N 77/1, Paharpur Road. That’s in the Garden Reach area of Kolkata, 700024. It’s a pretty lively part of town. The school has been around for many years now. We have a lot of students coming in from the surrounding houses. The building is quite large, but it feels full most of the time. We don't have a big playground, just a bit of space where the kids congregate during the breaks. The noise levels can get pretty high when everyone is out of class. We focus on the high school years, which keeps us busy with exam prep and all that. Our teachers are mostly local folks who have been teaching the same subjects for a long time. We don't have fancy air conditioning or anything like that; we just use the ceiling fans and keep the windows open. Sometimes the dust from the road comes in, but we just wipe the desks down and keep going. It’s a very grounded place. We don’t try to act like we’re a private academy for the rich. We’re just a neighborhood high school doing what we can for the kids in Garden Reach. People know where to find us if they need to talk about their children’s progress. We’re just a regular part of the daily life on Paharpur Road. Most of our graduates end up working nearby or going to the colleges in the city center.
