Our workshop, I.S. Leather, is situated at 15 A/10 on Chowbaga Road. This area has a lot of people working with their hands, and we are no different. We spend our days surrounded by the smell of raw hides and the sound of heavy-duty sewing machines. It’s a practical place, built for work rather than looking pretty for visitors. We take the leather and turn it into whatever is needed, mostly focusing on the basic steps that make a product last. There are scrap pieces of leather all over the floor by noon, and we sweep them up at the end of the day. The roof leaks a tiny bit when the monsoon rains are really heavy, so we have to move the finished goods to the middle of the room. It’s just one of those things you deal with. We don’t have a big sign out front, just the address and the work we do. Most of our orders come from people who have known us for years. We aren't trying to be the biggest company around. We just want to do a decent job so we can come back and do it again tomorrow. The tea stall at the corner is where we take our breaks and talk about the day’s work. It’s a simple life, focused on the material and the tools we use every single day. That's just us.
