Ganga Sagar Stores

Ganga Sagar Stores is located in Manikpur, right on Nirmal Sengupta Sarani in the Italgacha area of Kolkata. Being in this part of the city means we see a lot of people moving around all day. The shop is a small space filled with everything from pulses to cleaning supplies. We have been here in 700079 for quite some years. My family helps out with the stocking and managing the customers. It gets crowded in the evenings when everyone is coming home from the office. People stop to pick up sugar or some snacks for their tea. We try to keep the prices fair because we know everyone in the neighborhood. The street outside can get quite noisy with the autos and the rickshaws passing by. Sometimes we just sit and watch the rain during the monsoon months while waiting for the next customer. It is a bit cramped inside because we try to fit as many goods as possible on the wooden shelves. We have bags of rice stacked in the corner. Managing a store in Kolkata involves a lot of patience. We deal with the local distributors every few days to make sure we don't run out of the basic things. It is just a regular local business where we know which brand of tea a person likes before they even ask. It is not glamorous, but it keeps us busy and connected to the people around here.
