G. B. S. Tanners (P) Limited

We’ve been here at 11/1 Harshi Street for quite a while now. If you walk down the street, you can usually tell where we are by the stacks of hides out back. It’s a messy job, tanning leather, but someone has to do it. The building isn't much to look at, just old bricks and high ceilings, but it keeps the rain off the machines. Most days start early, before the sun gets too hot. We have a small crew. Some guys have been here since the start. We mostly just keep our heads down and get the processing done. Harshi Street is usually busy with trucks and people moving things around, so there’s always noise. It’s not a quiet office job. There's salt on the floors and the smell of raw hides is everywhere, which you get used to after a week or so. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. Just the workshop and a small wooden desk where we keep the papers and the phone. Sometimes the old machines break down and we spend the whole afternoon fixing them instead of actually working. That’s just how it goes in this business. We try to keep things moving as best as we can. It’s hard work, and by the end of the day, everyone is pretty tired. We lock up the gate, go home, and come back to do it again the next morning. It’s what we know and it’s how we pay the bills.
