Fu Leather Industries

Fu Leather Industries is located down Matheswartala Road, at 51/3C/2. It’s an old part of town where a lot of leather work happens. The road isn't always in the best shape, especially when it rains and the puddles get deep, but we've been here a long time. Inside, it’s mostly just big machines and stacks of material. It gets quite loud when everything is running at once, so we have to shout a bit to be heard. We handle the processing side of things mostly. There’s a lot of heavy lifting involved, moving bundles of skins from one side of the floor to the other. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. If someone comes by, they usually just find one of us on the floor and we talk right there. It’s a bit hot and sweaty work, especially in the summer months when the metal roofaks in the heat. We keep a few big fans going, but they mostly just move the warm air around. Still, it’s a living. We’ve got a crew that’s been together for years, so we all know what needs to be done without talking too much about it. We finish our shifts, clean up the scraps, and lock up. It’s honest work. We aren't doing anything fancy here, just basic industrial leather processing like it’s been done for decades in this neighborhood. The tea guy comes by at four and that's usually the highlight of our afternoon.
