Our office is located at 10 Crooked Lane, which is right by the Esplanade area in Kolkata. If you know that part of town, you know how crowded it gets. There are people everywhere and the noise of the buses never really stops. We are right in the middle of all that chaos. We deal with food products all day long, mostly just moving boxes and checking labels to make sure everything is where it should be. The building is old, like most things in the 700069 zip code. It has high ceilings and those big windows that let in a lot of dust. We spend a lot of time on the phone or writing things down in ledgers. It is not a high-tech warehouse with robots. It is just us and a few helpers moving things around. The heat can be a bit much in the afternoons, so we usually have the fans going full blast. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the narrow lane, and we have to go out and help them navigate the turn. It is a lot of physical work and sometimes our backs ache by the end of the shift. We have been at this location for a while, and we know the tea seller on the corner quite well. It is just a basic business routine that keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday.
