Darjeeling Impex

Working out of Plot No. 4 in Fairlie Place is interesting because the whole B. B. D. Bagh area has so much history. The buildings around here are old and have those high ceilings and thick walls that keep the heat out a little bit. We are right in the middle of the business district, so it is always a bit of a scramble with people moving boxes and delivery vans trying to find a place to park. Our space is filled with crates and the smell of tea leaves all day long. It is not a place for lounging around; it is where the work happens. We spend our mornings checking lists and making sure the shipments are ready to go out. The floor is a bit uneven in places because the building is old, but we have gotten used to it over the years. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up, so we end up carrying things by hand more than we would like. It is a lot of physical work, but being at Fairlie Place feels right. You can see the old architecture and feel the energy of the city’s trade right outside the door. We are not really trying to impress anyone with the decor. It is just a functional place where we get the job done and try to stay organized amidst all the B. B. D. Bagh chaos. Being part of Darjeeling Impex keeps us busy enough. We usually stay until the sun goes down over the river nearby.
