Asim Leather Exports

Asim Leather Exports is tucked away at No. 73 Colootola Street. If you’ve ever walked down this particular street, you know it has a very specific smell of raw hides and tanning. It’s a narrow place, and we’ve been working out of here for many years. We deal with leather, plain and simple. We source it from different places, check the quality, and then send it off to people who make bags or shoes. The walls of our shop are stained from years of work, and the floors are a bit uneven. We don't really mind, though. It’s a family thing. My father worked in the leather trade, and now I do the same thing every day. We don’t have a website or any fancy brochures to give out. People just know where we are if they need hides. Sometimes the shipments are late because of the weather or transport issues, and we just have to deal with the delay. It’s a dusty job, and you’re constantly surrounded by stacks of skins. We spend our days sorting through piles to find the right texture or thickness for a specific order. It’s not the kind of job you do if you want to stay clean. We usually eat our lunch at the small desk amidst all the leather scraps and tools. It’s a busy life, but it’s what keeps the lights on for us. We don’t make big promises; we just show the leather we have and let the customer decide.
