Chakraborty Varities Stores

Our shop is right on the ground floor along the Bablatala Connecting Route in Rajarhat Gopalpur. We are very close to the Arunady Sangha Club, so people often use that as a landmark to find us. Living and working in Kolkata has its own rhythm, and we are just a small part of it. We carry a lot of different things, hence the name variety stores. It can get a bit cluttered inside because there is always something new coming in, from stationary to small household items. My brother and I take turns sitting at the counter. The club nearby has events sometimes and that brings in a lot of younger kids looking for snacks or pens. The road outside can get a bit narrow when too many bikes are parked, but it’s a lively area. We don’t have a big team or anything, just us making sure the shelves are not empty. Usually, we close up late because people coming home from work need stuff at the last minute. It’s a quiet enough spot most of the day, then it picks up in the evening. I like talking to the regulars about the local news. We don’t do anything fancy with the display, just put things where they fit. It works for us and the neighbors seem to know where everything is kept by now. We just keep going one day at a time.
