Bhai Bhai Store

People around Taruliya Main Road know us pretty well by now. We’ve been running Bhai Bhai Store for a good while, right near the Kali Mandir. If you’re walking toward the temple, you’ll probably see us on the corner. It’s a busy spot, especially in the evenings when everyone is heading home and stopping for a few things. We keep the usual stuff, things you need every day like oil, packets of biscuits, and detergents. My brother and I manage the place, so one of us is always here from morning till late night. Sometimes the traffic on the main road gets loud, but you get used to it after a few years. The shop isn't huge, so things are stacked up high on every shelf. We do our best to find what people ask for quickly, even if it is tucked away in the back. Last week the fridge was acting up, so that was a bit of a headache, but we got it fixed eventually. Dealing with the distributors is probably the hardest part of the job because they never arrive when they say they will. But the customers are mostly locals who live in the lanes behind the main road. We know who wants which brand of tea without them even asking. It’s just a simple life here in Kolkata. We open early, sweep the front, and start the day. Sometimes we sit outside on a stool when it’s quiet. We aren't trying to do anything big, just keeping the shop running for the neighborhood.
